In November 2014, my daughter Kelsey, just three and a half, was diagnosed with cancer. The tumor caused total vision loss, and intensive treatment led to partial hearing loss. Facing this triple challenge, our family endured immense fear and uncertainty. During her treatment, I saw many families, especially Chinese families, struggling with language and cultural barriers. To support them, I began visiting hospital rooms with toys and food, sharing experiences, offering encouragement, and organizing fundraising for families in need. Through this, I realized that while I was helping others, their courage also strengthened me. Kelsey, despite her challenges, thrived—publishing books, singing, acting, and playing piano—often performing at charity events to help other children. Tragically, after 6 years of treatments, just five months after founding Gold Ribbon,in September 2020, Kelsey became a beautiful angel at the age of nine. Her spirit continues to inspire our mission of hope and care.

I am a Chinese who was raised in Japan. As overseas Chinese, we face a variety of cultural and environmental challenges. Not to mention that it presents a significant challenge for the sick children and their families. I am delighted to join forces with the families of sick children, to speak for them, to fight for the rights and benefits they deserve, and to assist them in overcoming their difficulties. Because I grew up in multiple cultures, I hope to be able to use my multilingual skills to help more people in need. Break down cultural barriers, express your own ideas, and advocate for your own rights. I am grateful to many sick children's parents for their trust and encouragement. I am grateful for the trust and encouragement of many parents of sick children. They invited me to serve as an interpreter so that I could find a sense of purpose in helping others. I'm hoping that more individuals will join us in bringing hope and love to those who are suffering.

I am a Chinese mother in Canada who takes care of four children alone. I hope that no matter what government process is in place, there will always be a community of unofficial supporters that quietly support sick children's families and let them know that they have our support. I've had the impression that a small move from someone I don't know is more than enough to give the sick children's families the strength to face the future. I hope to begin as a local volunteer, so I formally founded the Golden Ribbon non-profit organization with a few like-minded friends who share this belief, with the goal of assisting more Chinese families.

Every person plays different roles throughout their life, but using one’s abilities to help those around us has always been my lifelong aspiration. Every hug shared with a sick child, every hand held with a parent facing illness, conveys more than warmth—we feel like warriors standing side by side in this battle. Around us, there are children and families who, in their most vulnerable moments, need someone to support them. I hope to be that person, so they never feel alone. “Not being alone” is the greatest motivation to keep moving forward. We warmly invite more people to join our loving Gold Ribbon families, to shine together and help light the path toward a brighter future for these children.

In the darkness, remember that a sky full of stars ✨ can light your way forward. Let us continue to pass on this warmth and love. A group of compassionate brothers and sisters work tirelessly and selflessly, quietly bringing care and prayers to the children and families of the Chinese Gold Ribbon community. Every time I see the joy on the faces of the children we support, my heart fills with happiness. I am grateful to those who led me to join Gold Ribbon. The journey of love is long, and our efforts have only just begun. Through continued dedication, we hope to inspire more kind-hearted individuals to learn about and support our Gold Ribbon family.

Focus on children's drawing teacher
I am obligated to teach painting to sick children in order for the children who stay in the ward every day to learn to paint as well. I was deeply moved by the children's perseverance and strength during their study. At the same time, I participate in other Golden Ribbon volunteer activities, such as the "Paint Day" activity on Mother's Day, where mothers of sick children can paint and relax their hearts. I hope that in the future, I will be able to help more children and mothers of sick children, despite my meagre efforts.
